In-Home Brain Focused Facilitator

Job Overview

Under the direction of a therapeutic team, the Brain Focused Facilitator will provide direct care and intervention to one or more children who have histories of abuse, neglect, prenatal drug exposure and complex trauma. The BFF will assist in data collection and monitoring of behavior support services; perform a variety of specialized learning techniques, communication strategies, and applied behavioral activities or therapeutic interventions and techniques designed to help create healthy neural pathways for neurologically compromised children. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform any combination of the following in order to assist in supervising and meeting the care needs of children who have suffered complex trauma in order to create an environment which allows for optimal functioning in the home, school and community settings.

  • Utilize prescribed specialized learning and communication techniques to assist child/children in completing the basic tasks of daily living including hygiene, chores, transportation, eating, educational responsibilities, etc 

  • Assist child/children in regulating emotions through a variety of external calming techniques applied in the moment, to include crisis de-escalation when necessary.

  • Provide child/children with opportunities to participate in scheduled and planned activities therapeutically prescribed to assist in developing new neural pathways to improve brain functioning.

  • Attend meetings with the therapeutic team and other meetings as required in order to assure consistency in all environments.

  • Complete daily logs documenting the frequency of behaviors and the application and effect of interventions provided.

  • Communicate daily with parents, and weekly with therapeutic team on the progress of the child/children.

  • Other duties as assigned.



A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human service field, and one year of experience in working with children who have suffered abuse/neglect, or other emotional, behavioral or mental health issues. Specialized training will include Crisis De-Escalation, NCTSN Caregiver training, and individualized training specific to the child/client.

Successful Candidates would have the ability to:

  • Implement individualized treatment plans, assure daily documentation, necessary communication and follow-up procedures; maintain records and write reports.

  • Supervise a child/children with behavioral aggressiveness.

  • Learn and utilize specialized intervention techniques and strategies which are effective with children who have suffered complex traumas.

  • Maintain confidentiality at all times concerning children and their families.

  • Follow written protocols and procedures as specified.

  • Provide own transportation to and from work assignments.

  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children, parents, therapeutic professionals, and community agencies.
